Sol-Gel Technologies is an Israeli Company developing, producing and
commercializing cutting edge products for the dermatology, skincare and
agricultural industries. The Company owns a proprietary technology for
encapsulating active substances in silica microcapsules utilizing a
chemical process termed sol-gel. The release and delivery of the active
substances contained in SolGel’s silica microcapsules can be controlled
by optimizing the capsule configuration, enhancing their safety,
durability and efficacy.
Main Markets / Applications
Market. The global topical anti-acne market for non-antibiotic topical
treatments is $3 billion. The global market for UV filters is $250
million. The agricultural market for crop protection is estimated to be
at lease $800 million.
Uniqueness / Advantage over Existing Products
The superior versatility of the sol-gel process results in vigorous
means of controlling the delivery of the entrapped ingredients.
Amorphous silica is recognized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
and by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a safe ingredient.
Therefore amorphous silica imposes no regulatory issues for
encapsulating recognized active ingredients. Silica is highly inert and
therefore enables encapsulation of reactive ingredients (e.g., benzoyl
peroxide used in the Company’s anti-acne product
