Allium
Core Business / Technology
Allium Medical has developed a proprietary core technology for producing
an innovative range of site specific stents for non-vascular and
peripheral vascular applications. Currently four non-vascular stents
have been developed. Allium stents are fully covered, removable,
self-expanding and cost effective. They are designed to hold passageways
open in the body that may have become closed or obstructed as a result
of aging, disease, or trauma. The product consists of the stent mounted
on a disposable delivery system ready for deployment within the body and
includes all the necessary accessories. Allium’s stents are constructed
from a super-elastic Nitinol alloy metal in a specific pattern and
shape, which is then covered with a thin film of a new generation
bio-compatible polymeric material. The coating technology significantly
reduces the encrustation seen with other stents and allows secure
removal of the stent even after long indwelling periods.
Main Markets / Applications
There is a robust growth in the utilization of stenting devices in
various non-vascular as well as in vascular applications. These
applications include palliation of urethral obstructions, particularly
secondary to BPH, as well as management of occlusive disorders of the
biliary duct, esophagus, and tracheobronchial tract caused by advanced
malignancies, benign tumors, or trauma, in addition to various occlusive
peripheral vascular indications. Allium’s unique stent designs give
excellent solutions to the needs of the current markets as well as
market segments currently unaddressed. The market potential for Allium’s
non-vascular products is expected to be approximately 1 Billion USD by
2008.
Uniqueness / Advantage Over Existing Products
Allium stents are designed by physicians for physicians. The stent
manufacturing technology and the company’s IP support Allium’s site
specific design concept and enable the company to build stents with
various shapes, varying radial force along the stent, and with a unique
unraveling feature for ease of removal. Differing from the available
stents which are based on a "one shape fits all organ," Allium’s stents
are designed to optimally suit each target organ.
